Move With Deb Podcast – Liberation via Understanding Pain
Deb Malkin, certified life coach, bodyworker and Pain Recovery Coach shares tips for rewiring persistent pain and emotional overwhelm.
After experiencing her own overnight transformation of her chronic knee pain while 50, fat and with an x-ray showing degenerative osteoarthritis, she realized that pain wasn’t only what her bodywork education or doctors were teaching.
Using tools inspired by the work of Dr. Sarno, physician and author of Healing Back Pain and Mindbody Prescription she has added a blend of mindbody awareness, polyvagal theory, life coaching magic and a lot of health at every size rebelliousness to develop her own special process that takes into consideration the affects of marginalization and stigma on our perception and experience of safety.
Deb is a long time bodyworker, movement enthusiast, former plus size clothing store owner and aging fat queer human with an irreverent sense of humor. She believes all bodies are born with inherent worth and value.
Trained by Dr. Howard Schubiner, a renowned Mindbody Physician and Charlie Merrill, PT, Deb has successfully helped clients eliminate or reduce migraine, back pain, knee, foot and fibromyalgia pain and her clients have resumed creating lives full of richly desired physical activities without fear about chronic or persistent pain.
In this podcast I talk about some of the physiological ways our body processes stress, yawning, crying, spontaneous inhalation. (I don’t get sciencey)
You can find more information about this from the book Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle, coauthors (and twin sisters) Emily and Amelia Nagoski.
I’m also currently studying with Dr. Amy Apigian in her 21 Day Journey to Calm Aliveness in which she shares Somatic Experiencing exercises.
This episode is about how to use this reframe as a way to shift out of shame into curiosity. I share some of my hiking experiences in Iceland, especially when I was walking on a Glacier! Can you get into that curiosity approach?
